To the best of my knowledge they didn't really base the years off serial numbers. A 37 snow blower would definitely be older than the 37-A snow blowers. Might be able to get a rough idea off of possibly the deere decal. 2 legged or 4 legged deere. Also what metal the serial tag is made of. Brass or aluminum. The brass ones are older. I'm by no means an expert on these. This is just based off what i've seen.

Ok, looks like I had the belt on wrong. Sat down and studied it, reinstalled the belt with the two twists in it, which I thought was wrong, THEN I found a picture of the routing and I guess it will work. Oh well, 72 years old and still learning!!!!
Hey my friend, don't feel bad, I just turned 73 and I'm still learning too. Glad you got it figured out. I had a 36 on my 110 when I lived back east. I'm not at all familiar with the 37 series and by no means any expert so I can't be of much help. Brandan and ckjakline's info sounds very logical and sounds right for what you have.

I can see why they used this system only two years. We didn't get the snow that was called for, so I never got to try it out. I'm no expert either but I can see that belt giving trouble so in my humble opinion, that's why they changed to the four sprocket system on the 37A. But what do I know lol.

I just looked this morning and right now it will be a rain/mix on Thursday, 1 to 3 inches possible on Friday but you know how accurate the weather forecasters are. I'm located near Summit Station. I do need to get a spare as I'm using my deck belt for the blower. As I said, they only made the E0680's in '68-'69 and changed to the 4 sprocket chain setup in 70 eliminating the twisted belt. Here's my setup.
