Starting a new project and hoping it turns out ok. If all goes well we will be able to call it a barrel train and it will haul the little ones around at the Roots Tractor Show and perhaps other places. Here are some pictures of progress so far. Please be kind to me on the comments about my messy garage.
Glad to finally have the opportunity to pull our weight Don! Enjoyed spending a few hours with you today, and working as a team. First time use for Caleb using the plasma cutter and grinder, and I think he did us both proud!
However, he is still talking about using the plasma cutter, and is still trying to talk me into buying one of our own! He started bragging to his mom when we got home, and was in the middle of telling her how good he was using it, when she busted his bubble by asking, "I have no idea as to what you are even talking about."
Great job guys, looks like you have a great plan and plenty of help. I'm sure they will be a big crowd pleaser in June.
Plasma cutters are great it's like cutting butter with a warm knife. Been years since I've used one.
Would never ever comment about a dirty garage Don that just means there being used. I do like the metal table top for fabricating and projects. Looks like a nice set up there you have
Troy it's good to see a father son project like that. So many kids these days show little or no interest in that type of work and when we were young it was a right of passage and you begged to help.
I got a little bit done last night however I must confess to getting a bit lazy this evening. I think between the rainy day and being on the concrete floor at work and in the garage at home my back is getting punished. Anyway here is the little bit I did get done. Their is also a second frame finished but not pictured.
Glad you guys are making good progress on them. We got some of one frame built so far. I started to cut the opening out of one of the barrels and it smelled pretty bad so I set it outside. I can tell you that cutting the opening with a jigsaw sucks. LOL.
I think I am going to bring them with to the next meeting. I need to get the other two frames put together and figure out the kickers to support the barrel.
George, Don and I have to have another barrel train work day again, so if Don don't mind and if you don't care, I'm pretty sure Caleb would be thrilled to cut out the barrels for you and George.
I was able to complete the frames minus paint tonight. Still need to smooth the openings in the barrels and mount the steering wheels. Curious to see how you guys are mounting them?
Here is a couple of pics I took of the frames. I think we will end up having the low riders out of the bunch LOL.
Well I thought it was finished but I added a few more things. But anyway I have it and two more finished and ready to go. Still have one more to finish.
Troy sent me an email and it reminded me I wanted to post a couple pics of our finished barrels. We didn't get very elaborate on ours. Still have decals to go but not sure we will have that done in time for the show.
Ok, so I can tell Don has camo, the american flag, and John Deere. George I can see you have Bush Hog for the last barrel and Bolens for the front barrel, but what is the middle barrel to represent?
The pink and purple barrel is what Lilly wanted for her barrel. She actually wanted pink and purple camo but didn't really tell me that till after the barrel was painted. Might do the camo after show season for a winter project.
I will only have one of the two barrels that I got, finished for the show. I'm making good progress, however I still have a lot to do yet. Most of the painting is complete, other than some minor touch ups, then it's on to making the assembly work out. My barrel will represent Allis Chalmers.
t looks like we will have 11 cars so I don't think we will need more. Besides that I am about barrel train cared out. Troy and I still have a teeter totter to build before the show.
Oh wow well I have faith you guys can get it done we have what 2 weeks left now?
