Hi, I am very new to this but I just acquired a John Deere 400 that was literally in boxes. I have started to take inventory and I am missing quite a few parts. I do have a brand new k532 block and but I am missing the oil pan and associated plugs and fill tube and dip stick. Also; the front grille, the muffler and exhaust manifold, the power steering ram, the cover for the front lights, and I don't have any attachments.

So, I am reaching out to accomplish 1 of two things. Either find the parts I am missing or get advice on what the best course of action is. From the reading I have done, The 400 is a one-off unique super garden tractor and has a lot in common with the 318 but is larger. From what I understand the implements are unique to it and don't fit other tractors and vice versa.

What I like about the tractor is that I got what I have for cheap and it is massive compared to other modern lawn tractors. I want to build a front end loader for it (can't find a JD 20 or similar loader for it and those I do are too expensive and/or don't ship) I would love to acquire for a reasonable price the tiller and mid mount deck. I love how beefy it is and that it weights in at just under 1000lbs according to tractordata.com

What I don't like about it is that I am having a hard time finding the parts. I have been looking for a few days for the oil pan and the deck and I have found some decks but they are local pick up only and won't ship. (May be cost prohibitive to ship?) As far as the oil pan...I don't even see one on the internet...hence this post. I also don't like the hand control for the hydrostatic and would look to do a foot pedal adjustment like a few posts I have seen.

From what I can tell, I need an additional piece to have a rear PTO for the tiller and the 400 has an odd PTO speed? This is my poor man version of a modern subcompact. I guess that is what draws me to these vintage garden tractors, the ergonomics seem to be better in the newer X and 1 series, but I can't afford a $15,000-$25,000 tractor but I really want a loader and a tiller so this is my hopeful approach at getting a small tractor for several thousand instead.

I am grateful for any advice and/or knowledge people are willing to share. Thanks. As a side note, looks like it has just over 1000 hrs on it.
