New to this forum. I will try again. I am installing a dipstick receiver tube on my John Deere 425. I have replaced it several times over the years because I use the tractor for rough cutting high grass. The vibration that comes with this practice causes the bracket for the tube to break. I am wondering if I should install an o ring on the end that slips into the motor casting. Thanks for your advice. fss

Welcome to the site! Everyone here likes pics, feel free to post your tractor.
I've never worked on a 425, but the parts diagram doesn't show an o-ring. If there wasn't one originally i don't think you'd be able to add one. Maybe try a new dipstick tube for a new tight fit.
Thanks for the info. I asked for advice because I afraid the o ring would break down in the constant heat. Thanks again. fss

I add my welcome to our site also. I too am not familiar with a 425 but as our members have suggested, some photos would be very helpful, especially some showing the area around the dip stick tube. I agree that there should be a way to reinforce the existing tube with a bracket that can be fabricated and fastened to the tube. There may be more than one way to do this. Let's see what we may able to come up with once we're able to look at some photos. Again, welcome to the site, it's good to have you aboard.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm located in southwestern Michigan. My 425 is a '93 with a little less than 1600 hrs on it. I rebuilt the engine at 1460 due to excessive oil consumption. It came with a 54" deck. I picked up a slightly used Buford Bucket from a gentleman in Ohio a few years ago. It's a great combination.
My mowing tractor is a John Deere 335. I also have a 1966, 110 purchased from the original owner, a 1981, 210 that was my dads, a 112 (my snow blowing tractor), a 1986, 160 that my parents bought for my wife and me as a wedding present. I also have several old 2 cylinder John Deere's and a 1953 Farmall Cub used for pushing snow.

Nice variety you've got. Was just watching a video on guy using a Buford on a 318.
The Buford Bucket is an awesome tool. I can get in anywhere in my garage, barn or shop with it to help me lift and move stuff. It's really handy. Whether it's moving ladder stands around the property or hauling deer back to the house or bringing a Farmall Cub with a broken front axle into the shop, the uses are endless.
The tires are 26x12x12 and 18x8.5x8. Rears are loaded with windshield washer fluid plus there's 100# of iron on each rear wheel. Out back there are 4, 42# John Deere suitcase weights plus 2, 25# Kubota suitcase weights for ballast.
