Started on this project last weekend and felt inspired after attending the show today. This the other 80 cart I purchased for
yard duty . Bed was pretty pitted and wanted to paint the wheels. Tires are original with tubes in them.
Was able to dig out the broken clips from the stake pockets and get them tack welded in with a few words of encouragement!!
Will not be for shows only preservation and yard work.
Bed getting truck bed coating leftover from 210’s do over
Will be making latch assembly for tailgate also trying to duplicate
the original

Had to bring home the restored cart so I could duplicate the latch . Very happy
with the end result. When I mounted this one I kept it higher to hide the holes from
the original one. Still need to get a spring yet and add a little paint to just that. If I can
get the sticker I may just repaint the hole tailgate.
Hope you think it looks good also

Drilled small holes in the corners then used a 1/4,5/16,3/8 drill bit to open the center up then a little die grinder work and a lot of square file for the details
Nice work on the 80 cart. Thanks for the photos as work is progressing. You definitely have a great deal of repair and fabrication skills that are producing great results. Duplicating a rear latch assembly like that and so well fitted together took some careful and patient work no doubt, certainly not an easy task. It's all looking really good. Great Job! (y)

Thank you for your kind remarks.
A little more today when I got home .
Pikeville Equip had the spring in stock and were able to find and
order the actual sticker for the tailgate also which was unbeleavable
Primed the tailgate after some serious sanding . Was thinking I really do
not want it shiny but definitely want it preserved and green
My thought is maybe spray it with a few extra coats and after it sat and dried
take a lighter scotch pad over it just to knock the sheen down.Thoughts?”

My pop just bought an 80 cart and used a roller and actually leveled
out pretty well .He only did the inner bad and rails though and put a piece
of aluminum Diamond plate in the bed then. I’m sure your is just fine
