Something I'd like to add to this post, which is something that I have been asked numerous times. What was introduced first, the 1966 Model 112 Lawn and Garden tractor with the 10hp HH100 horizontal shaft Tecumseh engine, or the 1966 Model 60 Lawn tractor with the 6hp VH60 vertical shaft Tecumseh engine?

The answer is the 1966 Model 60 Lawn tractor. The first time that John Deere had ever worked with Tecumseh was in testing out the 6hp vertical shaft engine.

John Deere introduced the Model 60 lawn Tractor February 2, 1966. The Model 112 Lawn and Garden Tractor wasn't introduced until April 26, 1966.

Where are you finding that serial number or the Yama? Is that something on the actual tractor which would be very strange or on paperwork that maybe the seller is providing just a typo?

Serial tag should be right below steering column on dash pedestal. its an aluminum plate rivited to middle of pedestal. If its missing you'll see 2 small holes about 2" apart. Early 1968 models have the plate riveted to the right side under hood.

Show us a picture of the hood hinges. Looks to me like either a 1971 or 1972. Does the steering wheel center cap have a four legged deer like is on the front of the tractor?

I have an opportunity to purchase a 1966 model 60. Unfortunately, the VH 60 was no good and he put a V50 in it.

Is is possible to find an original engine for it?
Thanks,
Tom
I would keep an eye out on ebay or your local facebook market place, craigslist ETC. It is getting harder to find parts for Tecumseh engines.
